Right now, I've just finished The Orc King by R. A. Salvatore and am in the midst of The Princess Bride.

What are you guys reading? Do you like what you are reading? Why or why not?

I'm reading a couple things at the moment... I so often am.

For light fiction I am (re) reading Jane Austen's "Northanger Abbey". It is quite silly and pokes fun at the "trashy" gothic literature of its day. Plus, I am a sucker for romance... which Jane Austen is the master of.

On the heavier side of my reading I have Patrick O'Brian's "Post Captian", the second book in the Aubrey-Maurtin series. (The first book being "Master and Commander".) I am about halfway through and so far there has been enough story to last several novels! There is romance, adventure, music, and, of course, the Royal Navy. I am pretty much in love with this series, it is a pleasure to read.

And, rounding off the list, for now, is David McCullough's "1776"... which I have been reading off and on for about a year now. I love my history, but there is only so much Washington I can handle at once.

Northanger Abbey has been described to me as "the Jane Austen book that nobody likes." Could you tell me more about it in detail?

It was her first completed work BUT it was not published until after her death. I have never heard of anyone not liking it... but then, I never heard of anyone else who had read it. It is a bit... different from her other works in that it was meant to be trashy gothic literature. Also, her writing style was still in devlopment. I guess that might account for some people's displeasure.

Honestly, I like it alot. The only Jane Austen novel I am not gung-ho over is "Mansfield Park", because Fanny is a ninny.
