I guess this is what I'm saying:
a story is like a relationship

at the beginning it is crucial
to make promises and buy roses
lure the reader in with chocolates
and three hour phone conversations

first impressions are critical
it is best to seem as intresting as possible
as interesting as you are
so not to bore them
make yourself worthy of commitment

you'll have plenty of time to drag you heels
when your ring is on her finger
